SCHOOL H.U.G.S. Goal

The goal of SCHOOL H.U.G.S. Bullying Prevention Program is to develop and implement the program within the school curriculum and build a Community Volunteer Recruitment and Management System that will help facilitate the workshops through-out the Hampden County also to engage parents to become more involved with the school systems and together help educate and provide assistance to youth, especially those with disabilities, by providing the tools that will help them effectively in the event of a bullying situation even if is just support.

SCHOOL H.U.G.S. Approach

The purpose of the SCHOOL H.U.G.S. Bullying Prevention Program is to prevent bullying in our Schools and the society through education and awareness. We provide educational programs and resources to individuals, families, educational institutions and organizations. We make available community workshops and educational resources in order to help people deal effectively and positvely with the act of bullying and its long-lasting negative consequences.

What is bullying?

Bullying is the physical and or psycological abuse, perpetuated by 1 powerful child upon another, with the intention to harm or dominate. Typically, bullying is repetitive, intentional, and involves and an imbalance of power.

5 TYPES OF BULLIES

  • Bullies

    •  â€‹These children are "traditional" schoolyard bullies.

  • Eggers

    • "Eggers" (referred to as "henchmen" or "followers") are so called because their main function is to egg on bullies.

  • All-around bullies

    • All-around bullies are school yard bullies who are widening their bullying activities into the electronic realm [world] (i.e., cyberbullying)

  • Only-cyberbullies

    • Only-cyberbullies are children who would not engage in schoolyard bullying, but do engage in cyberbulling because they have a set of beliefs or attitudes that support cyberbullying specifically.

  • Unintentional cyberbullies

    • These children also cyberbullies because of a set of beliefs or attitudes, but they seem to do so without the intent to actively bully that characterizes only-cyberbullies.

Helping our Community Cope

No more Silence

Silence is no longer an acceptable response to bullying. Adults, students, and educators can no longer look away when they see bullying. Ignoring it won't work. Everyone needs to be empowered with options to respond.

  • Support our children by telling them that this is not their fault, and that they did nothing wrong, teaching them how to deal with bullying situations effectively.

  • Inform our children that they should not retaliate or attempt to fight or hit the bully.

  • Parents should role - play with children ignoring the bully or walking away.

  • Create activities for the children in which they are surrounded with friends and family to ensure them unconditional love.
